Math & Language Arts for Pre-K & Kindergarten
2026-2027 Approved Sage Oak Charter Vendor
Curriculum Overview
Pre-K thru Kindergarten
Our goal is to work alongside homeschool parents, providing meaningful enrichment, hands-on instruction, opportunities for social learning, and additional support for the skills families are developing at home

Pre-K
Language Arts
Our Pre-K ELA program focuses on developing the foundational skills the 4-year-old child needs before beginning formal reading instruction.
Handwriting Without Tears
We use Handwriting Without Tears to introduce early handwriting and letter formation in a developmentally appropriate, multisensory way.
Hands-on activities and manipulatives are incorporated to help children understand how letters are formed before expecting independent pencil-and-paper work.
Zoo-phonics
Zoo-phonics brings letters and sounds to life through movement, animals, visual cues, and repetition.
The movement-based approach is especially engaging for young learners and allows children to use their whole bodies while developing important early literacy skills.
All About Reading — Pre-Reading
We incorporate All About Reading Pre-Reading to strengthen the essential skills children need before formal reading begins.
Our emphasis in Pre-K is on building reading readiness—not rushing children into Kindergarten-level reading expectations before they are developmentally ready.
Our Kindergarten ELA program builds upon children's early literacy foundations and begins the exciting transition from learning about letters and sounds to becoming readers and writers.
Explode the Code — Get Ready for the Code
For our Pre-K students, we use Get Ready for the Code, part of the Explode the Code readiness series, to provide additional practice with early literacy and phonics concepts.
Get Ready for the Code complements our letter of the week, Zoo-phonics, All About Reading Pre-Reading, and Handwriting Without Tears instruction.
Children practice:
• Letter recognition
• Letter-sound relationships
• Beginning sounds
• Listening and auditory discrimination
• Visual discrimination
• Following directions
• Vocabulary development
• Early phonemic awareness
• Fine-motor and pencil skills
• Building confidence with early literacy activities

Pre-K
Mathmatics
Dimensions Math PK A & PK B
Our Pre-K mathematics program uses Dimensions Math PK A and PK B to develop early mathematical thinking through hands-on experiences.
Children explore:
• Number recognition
• Counting and one-to-one correspondence
• Number sense
• Comparing quantities
• Sorting and classifying
• Patterns
• Shapes and spatial awareness
• Measurement
• Size and comparison
• Early addition and subtraction concepts
• Mathematical vocabulary
• Problem-solving and reasoning
Children use manipulatives, games, movement, and real-world experiences to develop an understanding of how and why math works.

Kindergarten
Language Arts
English Language Arts
Our Kindergarten ELA program builds upon children's early literacy foundations and begins the exciting transition from learning about letters and sounds to becoming readers and writers.
All About Reading — Level 1
All About Reading Level 1 serves as an important component of our Kindergarten reading instruction.
Through explicit, sequential, and multisensory instruction, students work toward developing the skills needed to read words, sentences, and beginning-level stories with increasing independence.
Kindergarten students work on:
• Phonological and phonemic awareness
• Letter-sound relationships
• Blending sounds to read words
• Segmenting words into individual sounds
• Decoding unfamiliar words
• Reading short-vowel words
• Consonant blends and beginning phonics patterns
• Reading fluency
• Vocabulary development
• Reading comprehension
• Reading decodable stories
• Building confidence as beginning readers
Zoo-phonics
Zoo-phonics continues to reinforce letter sounds, phonemic awareness, and sound-symbol relationships through movement and multisensory learning.
As children progress into reading, these familiar visual and physical cues can help reinforce the phonics concepts used during reading instruction.
Handwriting Without Tears
Handwriting Without Tears supports Kindergarten students as they develop greater control, consistency, and confidence with written language.
Students work on:
• Correct uppercase and lowercase letter formation
• Pencil control and appropriate grip
• Proper letter size and placement
• Spacing
• Writing words
• Building sentences
• Beginning independent writing
Explode the Code
Explode the Code provides additional phonics practice that complements our Kindergarten reading instruction.
Activities reinforce skills such as:
• Letter-sound relationships
• Phonemic awareness
• Short-vowel sounds
• Blending and segmenting
• Word families and phonics patterns
• Decoding
• Spelling foundations
• Reading and understanding words and sentences

Kindergarten
Mathematics
Kindergarten Math with Confidence
Our Kindergarten math program uses Kindergarten Math with Confidence to provide a hands-on, engaging approach to foundational mathematics.
Students develop skills in:
• Counting and number recognition
• Number sense
• Comparing numbers and quantities
• Addition and subtraction
• Number combinations
• Ten-frames and visual number models
• Place-value foundations
• Shapes and geometry
• Patterns
• Measurement
• Time and calendar concepts
• Mathematical reasoning
• Problem-solving
Lessons incorporate manipulatives, games, conversation, movement, and practical experiences so children learn to think mathematically rather than simply memorize procedures.
